Raleigh, N.C. — Middle school students from across the state were recognized as Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship recipients last weekend at the North Carolina State University women’s basketball game against Wake Forest. Each of the young women honored had earned a full scholarship from one of North Carolina’s 26 Touchstone Energy cooperatives to the Wolfpack women’s basketball camp last summer.
The scholarship recipients reunited in Raleigh Feb. 8 to attend the basketball game and a celebration luncheon with their families. At the luncheon, scholarship campers accepted a certificate of accomplishment and a congratulatory hug from N.C. State’s mascot, Ms. Wuf.
During a timeout at the game, the 22 scholarship winners stood at mid-court in Reynolds Coliseum to be recognized in front of a cheering crowd as Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship recipients. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives also presented a check worth $15,000 to Wolfpack Sports Marketing in support of the upcoming summer scholarship program.
“North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives are delighted to continue the Touchstone Energy scholarship winners’ educational experience by inviting them to a Division 1 collegiate game,” said Lindsey Listrom, community relations specialist for North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives. “These young ladies are exemplary scholars and athletes, and we are proud to recognize their hard work and achievements.”
Touchstone Energy cooperatives statewide are accepting applications now through March 31 for scholarships to attend this summer’s basketball camps. Young men can compete for a scholarship to the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and young ladies can vie for a scholarship to the N.C. State Wolfpack Women’s camp in Raleigh. Applicants will be judged on their application, essay and extracurricular activities. More information and the application are available at www.ncelectriccooperatives.com.
More than 50 students will win Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships to attend the educational and athletic camps on college campuses this summer. Now in its 12th year, the Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarship program is an example of North Carolina’s electric cooperatives’ commitment to community.
