Raleigh, N.C. —North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives, as the title sponsor, will help bring the wonder of books (libros) and libraries to thousands of Hispanic children (ninos) by hosting Dia de Los Ninos/Dia De Los Libros celebrations April 24 through May 6th.
Children’s Day (Dia de Los Ninos)/Book Day (Dia De Los Libros) is a multicultural celebration of children and books. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives is teaming with El Pueblo Inc. to help the state’s Latino families discover libraries and other resources in their communities and start to bridge the language gap. At each celebration, children will receive free bilingual books and their parents will receive electric safety information provided in both English and Spanish.
Headquarters Library in Fayetteville, NC, will kickoff the statewide celebration Monday evening by hosting a Children’s Day event, 300 Maiden Lane, at 7:00 p.m. Similar events across the state will also be held in Newton, Siler City, Spring Lake, Hope Mills, Durham, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Charlotte, Monroe, Raleigh, Fuquay-Varina, High Point, as well as additional Fayetteville locations. A chart below names all the locations of the Dia de Los Ninos/Dia De Los Libros events across North Carolina.
Festivities conclude Saturday, May 6 at the Durham County Library, 300 N. Roxboro Street in Durham. Activities begin at 10:30 a.m.
In 1997, author Pat Mora started Dia de Los Ninos/Dia De Los Libros to stress the importance of reading to children. North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have been sponsoring the event since El Pueblo brought it North Carolina in 2003.
North Carolina’s electric cooperatives serve more than 2.2 million North Carolinians in 93 of the state’s 100 counties.
