Raleigh, N.C. —North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives are proud to announce two basketball scholarship programs for 2006. Touchstone Energy Sports Camps Scholarships are being offered to the Kay Yow Basketball camp for female students in 6-8th grades and to the Roy Williams Basketball Camp for male students in 6-8th grades. The scholarships will send 27 deserving young women to the Kay Yow Basketball Camp at North Carolina State University and 27 deserving young men to the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“We are pleased to expand this program to include both young men and women,” said Suzanne Ward, Manager of Public Relations for the North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives. “For many, it will be an unforgettable experience and we’re proud to play a part.”
Applications for both camps will be accepted from January through March 31, 2006. Winners will be announced by May 1.
Winners of the Touchstone Energy Kay Yow Basketball Camp scholarship will attend the overnight basketball camp from June 18-22, 2006. Winners of the Touchstone Energy Roy Williams Basketball Camp scholarship will attend the overnight camp from June 11-15th. Campers must have permission from a parent or guardian to attend either camp and must provide their own transportation to and from the camp.

Applicants will be judged on their academics, extra-curricular activities and an essay that must accompany the application.
Conducting the Kay Yow Basketball Camp is Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame inductee Coach Kay Yow and members of her Wolfpack women’s basketball team. Roy Williams, coach of the 2004 National Champion Tar Heels, and members of its current team will teach the Roy Williams Basketball camp. Both camps will work closely with each camper to help develop fundamental skills that will help the young athletes perform and excel both on and off the court.
