North Carolina’s electric cooperatives restore outages after Arthur

Raleigh, N.C. – Approximately 23,000 members of North Carolina’s electric cooperatives are without power this morning because of the storm effects of Hurricane Arthur. The largest number of outages occurred in the central coastal areas and along the barrier islands, including Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.

Line crews began the restoration process at first morning light when conditions were safe. Line crews from the state’s unaffected electric cooperatives are assisting the co-ops most impacted by the storm. The crews will continue to work until all power is restored.

Electric cooperative officials remind people to always stay away from downed or low-hanging power lines. Always treat power lines as if they are energized and dangerous. If you see a fallen power line, stay away and call your local electric cooperative or 911. A list of outage reporting numbers for each of North Carolina’s 26 electric cooperatives can be found at http://ncelectriccooperatives.com/storm/outages.htm.

North Carolina’s electric cooperatives serve approximately 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties.
