NC Electric Co-ops Sponsor Leadership Camp Participants

Electric cooperatives sponsored several high school students to attend the 2018 Cooperative Leadership Camp, hosted by the Cooperative Council of North Carolina (CCNC). The resident camping program was held June 18-22 at the NC FFA Center at White Lake, and featured interactive workshops and presentations, team-building activities and recreation. The program is for rising North Carolina high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative, Central Electric, Four County EMC, Halifax EMC, Lumbee River EMC, Piedmont Electric, Union Power Cooperative, Wake Electric and North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives all sponsored students to attend.

During the week-long camp, Blue Ridge Energy’s Grey Scheer led participants in a college prep workshop, and Four County EMC’s Peggy Morgan, Stephen Batson, Brent Croom and Chris Ingram discussed electrical safety, including a live line demonstration.

“The teens also built the successful ‘BrighTee’ T-shirt co-op, coming out in the positive for profits,” said CCNC Executive Director Emily Nail. “They designed, produced and distributed T-shirts for the week, then at the annual meeting dissolved the cooperative, voting to sponsor teens for next year with the profits.”
