EnergyUnited and Haywood EMC were recently recognized with 2020 Spotlight on Excellence Awards. Each year, the awards program recognizes outstanding work produced by electric co-op communication and marketing professionals across the country. The awards are sponsored by the Certified Cooperative Communicator (CCC) Program and the Council of Rural Electric Communicators.
EnergyUnited received a Silver award in the Most Innovative Use of Digital Communication category for its redesigned website at energyunited.com.
“We are honored to be recognized for our website redesign,” said EnergyUnited Communications Manager Maureen Moore. “We wanted to improve our site with a new, modern design that is easy to use, and works well on all browsers and mobile devices. We believe our new website provides an improved user experience for all of our members and propane customers.”
Haywood EMC received a Silver award in the Best Annual Report to Members for its 2018 annual report, as well as a Gold award in the Best Photo category for “Moonlit.” Haywood EMC Marketing & Communications Social Media/Technical Coordinator Mitch Bearden took the photo on a night when crews were doing substation work after the main substation had sustained damage and needed repair.
“We used it on social media to show off the hard work our crews do, sometimes late at night. We also used it on our webpage showing linemen working,” Bearden explained. “The photo was taken with a DSLR, allowing me to slow the shutter speed, and shoot with the lens’ maximum aperture to capture enough light to make the photo in the dark.”
