North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives is awarding STEM scholarships to three outstanding students through the North Carolina Educational Scholarship Fund, part of the Miss North Carolina organization. Each recipient is pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering or math and is also a contestant in the Miss NC pageant program. Congratulations to the 2021 recipients:
- Carlie Spencer, also known as Miss Raleigh 2020, for her coursework in applied mathematics and law
- Abby Britt, Miss Spivey’s Corner, who holds a degree in radiology and is entering medical school in the fall
- Mariana Linares, Miss Gaston County, for her studies in mathematics
“Participants in this program represent some of our state’s future brightest stars,” said Hailey Rodriguez, communications and community relations specialist for North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives. “With these scholarships, electric cooperatives are pleased to help outstanding young women break through barriers, achieve their goals and make their mark in STEM professions that will help drive North Carolina into the future and make our state an even more vibrant place to live.”
North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives is proud to support women in STEM through the Miss NC Scholarship program. The electric cooperatives have partnered with the program since 2016, awarding over $20,000 in scholarships.
