RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina’s electric cooperatives are reporting fewer than 16,000 outages. Crews are working to restore those outages as quickly as possible.
Power restoration procedures aim to bring power to large numbers of people first. The process begins with ensuring transmission towers and lines are working properly. Then local distribution substations are checked and repaired as necessary. If a problem can be corrected at the substation level, large numbers of customers can be restored. Next, main distribution supply lines are checked, and when power is restored at this stage, all consumers served by this supply line will see their lights come on, if there are no problems further down the line.
