Electric cooperatives across the state are currently accepting applications from high school students interested in attending the 2020 NC Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. The week-long trip will take place June 20-26, 2020.
This annual tour gives exceptional students the chance to spend a week in our nation’s capital learning about government, U.S. history and the cooperative business model, while building leadership skills and making new friends from across the state and nation.
Students will have the opportunity to watch history come alive as they explore the museums, memorials and monuments. They will also meet with North Carolina’s congressional leaders on Capitol Hill to gain insight and advice and learn more about the legislative process.
In addition to receiving an all-expense paid trip, Youth Tour delegates are eligible to apply for several college scholarships and the opportunity to represent North Carolina on the Youth Leadership Council (YLC), a national cooperative program that seeks to develop strong leadership, presentation and advocacy skills in America’s most promising young leaders.
North Carolina’s electric cooperatives will send about 45 students on the 2020 tour, where they will join close to 1,800 other students from more than 40 states.
