North Carolina’s electric cooperatives have been leaders in innovation, deploying renewable energy resources that compliment a diverse power portfolio that enhances reliability, while keeping affordability and sustainability at top of mind.
Collectively, North Carolina’s electric cooperatives have 600 megawatts (MW) of renewable, distributed energy and edge-of-grid resources connected to their systems – and EnergyUnited’s latest solar project is adding even more clean more energy to the portfolio.
In partnership with hep solar, EnergyUnited recently celebrated the commissioning of the Perendale Solar Farm, a new 8.2-megawatt (MW) solar facility located in Davie County.
The Perendale Solar Farm will generate enough renewable energy to power approximately 1,400 homes annually. This project is part of EnergyUnited’s broader Solar Work Plan, which aims to develop 25 MW of solar power over the next two years and a greater goal of 100 MW by 2031.
“We are excited to take this important step in our journey toward a brighter energy future,” said Thomas Golden, chief executive officer of EnergyUnited. “The commissioning of the Perendale Solar Farm aligns with our vision of providing safe, affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy to our members. This project is not only a testament to the power of collaboration, but it also highlights our ongoing dedication to advancing renewable energy solutions for the communities we serve.”
The project was managed in partnership with hep solar, the owner and operator of the Perendale Solar Farm, with all energy from the facility being sold exclusively to EnergyUnited.
“We are proud to work alongside EnergyUnited to help expand their renewable energy portfolio,” said Wayne Marshall, president of strategy for hep solar USA. “This project demonstrates how partnerships between innovative, forward-thinking energy companies can deliver tangible benefits to communities through the generation of clean renewable energy.”
