Deadline Approaching for Summer Basketball Camp Scholarships

Do you have a rising sixth or seventh grader who dreams of playing basketball on a college campus? North Carolina’s electric cooperatives are awarding Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships to students across the state to attend basketball camps at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and N.C. State University this summer. The final deadline to apply is March 31.

Each of North Carolina’s electric cooperatives will provide one young woman with a scholarship to attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp June 18-21 at N.C. State University, and one young man the opportunity to attend the Carolina Basketball School June 17-21 at UNC Chapel Hill.

“Athletic skill and talent are not bound by where you live or how much money you make,” said N.C. State Women’s Head Basketball Coach Wes Moore. “Thanks to this long-standing partnership with North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives, we are able to support young athletes who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to come to our camp, find and discover their true potential.”

The annual scholarships fund all expenses at the overnight camps, which provide a glimpse into life on a college campus. Campers reside overnight in college dorms, learn fundamental skills that will help them excel on and off the court, and receive individual and group instruction from Division 1 coaches to sharpen their basketball and team working abilities.

“These camps are doing so much more than sharpening skills on the court,” said Joshua Tillman, communications and community relations specialist for North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives. “They are giving young athletes new opportunities to grow their teamwork and leadership skills while creating memories that will last a lifetime. We encourage any students interested to apply today!”

More than 50 students will be awarded Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships from electric cooperatives in North Carolina this year. Now in its 20th year, the scholarship program continues to be a shining example of the electric cooperatives’ commitment to building a brighter future through continued support for education and youth initiatives in our state.

Students must be in sixth or seventh grade during the 2023-2024 school year to be eligible for a camp scholarship and should complete and submit the online application before the March 31 deadline. To learn more and apply, visit www.ncelectriccooperatives.com/sports-camps/.
