N.C. Electric Cooperatives Present More Than $100,000 to N.C. Jaycee Burn Center to Launch New Fire Prevention and Safety Programs

Chapel Hill , N.C. (February 19, 2009)—North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives presented a check for more than $100,000 to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center today to help fund the center’s fire prevention and safety education initiatives.

The general managers of North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives organized a golf tournament last fall to finance this year’s sponsorship of Burn Center programs.   The tournament raised a record-breaking $105,234.  A check was presented to Dr. Bruce Cairns, director of the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center, today at the Burn Center’s board meeting at the Carolina Inn. This contribution is part of a $500,000, five-year pledge made by the electric cooperatives to support the Burn Center and its initiatives.

Dale Lambert, executive vice president and general manager of Randolph EMC, based in Asheboro, and tournament fundraising chair, said, “The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center is one of the electric cooperatives’ most rewarding partnerships.  Safety is the number one priority in our industry due to the nature of our work and the Burn Center’s mission is closely in line with our own. We are proud to continue to support the Burn Center in its efforts to educate North Carolinians about fire prevention and safety.”

The N.C. Jaycee Burn Center, which has been operating since 1980, provides world class burn treatment, helps rehabilitate patients who have had severe and life-threatening burns and provides fire and burn prevention education.

North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives serve 2.5 million people in 93 of the state’s 100 counties.
