Who We Are
North Carolina’s electric cooperatives provide reliable, safe and affordable energy and related services to more than 950,000 households and businesses in 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Each of the 26 cooperatives is member-owned, not-for-profit and overseen by a board of directors elected by the membership.
The North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation consists of a family of corporations formed to support the state’s 26 electric cooperatives. Those organizations include:
North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation (NCEMC) is one of the largest generation and transmission cooperatives in the nation and is responsible for electricity purchase contracts and transmission.
North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives (NCAEC), a corporation that provides trade association services to the state’s electric cooperatives. NCAEC publishes the award-winning Carolina Country magazine which goes out to more than 600,000 families, farms and businesses in North Carolina. Published continuously since 1946, Carolina Country is distributed by subscription to members of North Carolina’s electric cooperatives.
Tarheel Electric Membership Association, Inc. (TEMA), a cooperative that offers central purchasing and materials supply services to the cooperatives.
